Journaling that works

Tags: setups and mistakes

Two short tag lists turn hundreds of trades into clear answers about what to keep and what to cut.

4 minute read

Tags group your trades so patterns jump out. With 50 or more tagged trades, you can see exactly which setups pay and which habits cost you.

Setup tags

  • Keep the list short, 3 to 6 setups you can recognise every time.
  • Name them by what you see, like London breakout or Pullback to the 50 EMA.
  • Retire setups that stay negative after a fair sample.

Mistake tags

  • Moved stop, Early exit, Revenge trade, Oversized, No plan, Chased entry.
  • Tag a mistake even on a winning trade. Lucky mistakes are still mistakes.
  • Put a price on each one: total what every tagged trade cost.

In Alchemyfolio, Reports → Habits shows the money each setup made and each mistake cost, so the next rule to work on picks itself.
